Smart camera is the camera view that opens when you create a new expense in the app. It detects the receipt’s edges, takes the picture for you when you hold still, and crops the result automatically. You can also capture several receipts in a row and choose whether they should become one expense or several.

Before you start

You need the latest version of the app and an activated account.
Whether the camera opens automatically when you create a new expense is controlled by the setting Open the camera view automatically for new expenses. If it is off, open the camera manually from inside the expense.

How it works

When you point the camera at a receipt, the edges are highlighted with a white outline. If you hold still for a moment, the picture is taken automatically and you feel a short haptic tap. The image is then cropped along the outline and the contrast is boosted so the text is easier to read. You never have to press the shutter yourself, but you can if you want to.

Capture a receipt

1

Start a new expense

Tap the plus button at the bottom of the app and choose Expense. The camera opens.
2

Aim at the receipt

Place the receipt on a flat surface and point the camera at it. A white outline shows that the edges have been detected.

3

Hold still

Hold the camera steady for a moment. The picture is taken automatically and you feel a short haptic tap. To take the picture yourself, press the shutter button.
4

Keep or retake

A preview appears. Choose Keep to continue, or Retake to capture the receipt again.

5

Check the expense

Once you confirm the picture, it is cropped automatically and you are taken to the expense, where fields like Amount, VAT, Date, and Category are filled in for you. Review and save.

Capture several receipts in one session

If you need to register a stack of receipts, you can capture up to 20 in the same session and then choose whether they should become one expense or several.
Bulk capture is only available when you open the camera from the plus button. If you open the camera from inside an existing expense, you only add one more image to that expense.

4

Choose one or several expenses

You are asked whether the images should become one expense or one expense per image. Choose what fits, for example one expense if everything is the same receipt across several pages, or one per image if they are separate purchases.

5

Confirm the expenses

If the result is several expenses, they appear one at a time with a counter, for example 1/2. Finish each expense with Save, or tap Discard to remove it.

Good to know

Exit or confirm

The X in the top-left corner closes the camera without saving the pictures in the session. The checkmark in the top-right confirms the batch and takes you on.

Pick from your saved pictures

Want to use an image you already have on your phone? On Android, there is a button in the camera view that opens the photo library directly. On iPhone, that shortcut is not available in the camera view. Close the camera, open the expense, and add the image from the Attach receipt field.

When the camera is skipped

If you have a company card connected and a digital receipt has already arrived for the purchase, the camera step is skipped automatically and the expense is created with the receipt attached.

Frequently asked questions

When the camera has detected the receipt’s edges and you hold still for a moment, the picture is taken automatically. If you prefer, press the shutter button instead. Both work.
Place the receipt on a flat surface with good contrast against the background, avoid shadows, and make sure the whole receipt fits in the frame. If the camera still cannot find the outline, press the shutter manually and the image is saved as it is.

The question only appears when you have captured more than one receipt in the same session, and only when you opened the camera from the plus button. If you start the camera from inside an existing expense, the picture is added to that expense directly.
