# Smart camera

> Capture receipts with automatic edge detection, auto-shutter, and bulk mode for creating several expenses in one session.

Smart camera is the camera view that opens when you create a new expense in the app. It detects the receipt's edges, takes the picture for you when you hold still, and crops the result automatically. You can also capture several receipts in a row and choose whether they should become one expense or several.

## Before you start

You need the latest version of the app and an activated account.

<Note>
  Whether the camera opens automatically when you create a new expense is controlled by the setting *Open the camera view automatically for new expenses*. If it is off, open the camera manually from inside the expense.
</Note>

## How it works

When you point the camera at a receipt, the edges are highlighted with a white outline. If you hold still for a moment, the picture is taken automatically and you feel a short haptic tap. The image is then cropped along the outline and the contrast is boosted so the text is easier to read.

You never have to press the shutter yourself, but you can if you want to.

## Capture a receipt

<Steps>
  <Step title="Start a new expense">
    Tap the plus button at the bottom of the app and choose **Expense**. The camera opens.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Aim at the receipt">

## Good to know

### Exit or confirm

The **X** in the top-left corner closes the camera without saving the pictures in the session. The checkmark in the top-right confirms the batch and takes you on.

### Pick from your saved pictures

Want to use an image you already have on your phone? On **Android**, there is a button in the camera view that opens the photo library directly. On **iPhone**, that shortcut is not available in the camera view. Close the camera, open the expense, and add the image from the **Attach receipt** field.

### When the camera is skipped

If you have a company card connected and a digital receipt has already arrived for the purchase, the camera step is skipped automatically and the expense is created with the receipt attached.
